What is a vertical platform lift (VPL)?

A vertical platform lift, usually shortened to VPL, is an open platform that travels straight up and down beside a set of steps. The rider stays in their wheelchair or scooter and the platform carries them and the chair together. Most people call them porch lifts, and both names mean the same thing.

It's a different machine from a stair lift, which is a seat that rides a rail along the staircase and requires the rider to transfer out of their chair. If you use a wheelchair or a mobility scooter day to day, a VPL is usually the one you want.

Which porch lift do I need, the PL-50 or the PL-72?

The number is the maximum rise in inches the lift can travel. The Mac's Lift PL-50 handles a rise up to 50 inches. The PL-72 handles up to 72 inches. Both are rated to 750 lb, so capacity is rarely the deciding factor.

To work out which you need, measure straight up from the ground where the lift will sit to the surface of the porch or landing you're trying to reach. That measurement is your rise. If you're close to the 50-inch mark, or you're not sure, call us with the number and we'll tell you which one fits.

What warranty comes with a lift?

New lifts carry a five-year warranty. Our rebuilt used lifts carry a six-month warranty. We also follow up after installation rather than considering the job finished the moment we drive away.

How quickly can you install?

Faster than most people expect. Sometimes next day, depending on the equipment and where you are in the state. Installation is handled by our own licensed, bonded, factory-trained technicians. Call and we'll give you a realistic timeline for your situation.

Do you offer rentals for porch or stage lifts?

Yes. Short-term rentals are available for both porch and stage lifts. They work well for temporary needs: recovering from surgery, a visiting family member, or making an event space accessible for a weekend.

What is your buy-back program?

We purchase lifts you no longer need. We'll give you a no-hassle bid and pick the lift up for you, so you don't have to arrange removal or disposal. If we sold you the lift originally, we'll buy it back once you're done with it. Inventory varies weekly, so reach out to find available units or to sell yours.

Which brands of lifts do you service?

We service Mac Lift and RAM Lift and are factory-trained on both. We're happy to service a unit even if we weren't the ones who installed it.

Is a ramp a better option than a lift?

Sometimes, yes. It depends on the height you need to clear, how much room you have, and who's using it. A modest rise with plenty of yard often suits a ramp; a tall porch on a narrow lot usually calls for a lift. We sell and install both, so we have no reason to push you toward one over the other. Tell us about your entryway and we'll say which we'd recommend.
